I just joined... hadn't thought to join an Errol Flynn community before this... silly me. I can't believe there's only like 12 people in this community! Is there another one i don't know about? Thanks for this one, anyway...

I suppose TCM's tribute has really got me going... i'm doing my best to record and watch all of the movies they show, as i haven't seen all of them.

The Adventures of Robin Hood is my favorite of his movies, if only because it's the first i saw.

I also have a little Errol related family story to share. My grandmother- whose favorite actor when she was young was Errol Flynn- named one of her sons after him [Robert Errol Millios]. Unfortunately, he died very young in a car accident and i never met him. My mother then named my brother after my uncle- so, my brother's name is Robert Errol Millios II. But- we all call him Errol. Cool, eh?

Finally, i come bearing a header & icon pairing that may be used for your LJ. Please comment and credit in your userinfo if you use them.

I thought this was interesting, Errol's last words:

I've had a hell of a lot of fun and I've enjoyed every minute of it.

03:26 pm - Query-
Does anyone know what film this picture is from? I'd like to say it was from either Captain Blood, judging by Basil Rathbone's hair, or The Adventures of Robin Hood but I honestly don't remember Errol Flynn wearing chainmail in the film. Help?

Rathbone and Flynn...together again:)Collapse )

A few Robin Hood pictures....

Marion: 'Why, you speak treason!' Robin:'Fluently.' Collapse )

If anyone has the entire dialogue from the scene in the forest, when he tells Marion why he's an outlaw, I would be eternally grateful.

03:15 pm - What I'm Watching This Afternoon

Sir Robin of Locksley visits Prince John at Nottingham Castle, the castle of Sir Guy of Gisbourne. He brings "a piece of meat" and chats with John. When John declares he has "kicked (King Richard's regent) Longchamps out", Robin spits out the meat he was given.

John: "What's the matter? Have you no stomach for honest meat?"

Robin: "For honest meat, yes. But I've no stomach for traitors."

John: "You call me traitor?"

Robin: "You? Yes. And every man here who offers you allegiance.

"What else do you call a man who takes advantage of the King's misfortune to seize his power? And now, with the help of this sweet band of cutthroats, you'll try to grind a ransom for him out of every helpless Saxon, a ransom that'll be used not to release Richard but to buy your way to the throne."

Guy: "Let me ram those words down his throat, Your Highness!"

John (to Guy): "Oh, no. Later. Let him spout for the moment."

John (to Robin): "And what do you propose to do?"

Robin: "I'll organize revolt, exact a death for a death. And I'll never rest until every Saxon in this shire can stand up, free men, and strike a blow for Richard in England."

John: "Have you finished?"

Robin: "I'm only just beginning. From this night on I use every means in my power to fight you."

You've got to love that forthright expression of morality.

I just joined. I have tons of Flynn icons, but they are mostly on an older, slower computer, or kicking about on disks. Check out my userpics. I also have some quotes from movies, but again they haven't really made the transition to the new PC yet.

I've read most of his autobio--skipping over a few parts here and there. I've also read most of Inherited Risk, a bio of him and his son, though it focuses mostly on him. His autobio is notoriously unreliable, but I found Inherited Risk to be a bit dodgy in places as well.

If you really hunt on amazon.com, you can read the first few pages of Beam Ends, his first novel, supposedly autobiographical. I'm keen to read his other two books that I know of.

"How was I introduced to Flynn?" Old movies on TV as a kid, Robin Hood most likely. Though I believe I was also a big fan of Douglas Fairbanks Jr.

"Favorite role?" so many are great. Robin Hood is the mold. But Don Juan is a great mature Flynn. I also like how Alan Hale shows up as his sidekick in so many films.

It's great to find a Flynn community!
